Since its inception in the mid 1970’s, Petro-Canada has had a vision for Canadians. They have built their brand around focusing on people, purposeful innovation and the Canadian marketplace. Their Live by the Leaf slogan is more than a reminder of our legacy as Canadians and a call to live up to that legacy. It signifies their commitment to “move from a value brand to a brand with values”.

In their ongoing quest to make a meaningful difference, Petro-Canada reached out to Canadians to take a measure of what issues mattered most to them. What they discovered was that Family Caregiving emerged as a nationwide need and passion.
All across Canada, devoted family members are experiencing the challenges of the demanding role of caring for their loved ones. Frequently this situation emerges quite unexpectedly, and family members find themselves suddenly providing critical care, often without any prerequisite training or tangible support. Most Canadians envision that this will be their reality at some point in time which seems highly probable because it is already the current reality for over 8 million Canadians.

In November of 2020, The Petro-Canada CareMakers Foundation came to life with the goal of supporting family caregivers and inspiring the nation to join the cause. Backed by the commitment of both Petro-Canada and Suncor this initiative strives to create awareness and understanding of the fundamental issues of family caregiving in Canada and further inspire Canadians to get involved.

Since 2020, Petro-Canada CareMakers Foundation has awarded millions of dollars in grants to charitable organizations across the country who are devoted to making transformational change in the lives of caregivers across Canada. Recipients of grants, known as CareMakers, champion the cause to Live by the Leaf and have a profound impact on the lives of caregivers.
You, too, can become a part of the CareMaker network and support family caregivers. By making a charitable donation, you can help fund resources, support, and programs for caregivers across Canada or, as a member of a registered Canadian charitable organization who promotes and supports caregivers, you can apply for a grant.
